Match stone hardness to usage
Granite and quartzite (6–7 Mohs) are ideal for high-traffic kitchen worktops where chopping, heat and moisture are everyday realities. Marble (3–4 Mohs) rewards careful use and suits baking stations, bathroom vanities and decorative surfaces. If you cook frequently with acidic ingredients, a harder or properly sealed surface is essential to prevent etching.
Finish, thickness & edge profile
A polished finish amplifies colour and veining; honed or brushed finishes show fewer everyday marks. Standard thickness is 20 mm or 30 mm — 30 mm reads as more substantial on islands. Simple eased or pencil-round edges suit modern kitchens, while ogee or bullnose profiles add traditional character. Always request samples under your own lighting before committing.

Granite and quartzite are the most durable options for kitchen use. Both score 6–7 on the Mohs hardness scale, resist heat from pans and stand up to daily cutting and cleaning. Quartzite is slightly more resistant to etching from acidic foods, making it an excellent long-term investment for a busy family kitchen.
Yes — most natural stones are porous to varying degrees and benefit from sealing. Pulycort countertops are supplied pre-sealed with a professional impregnating sealant. We recommend re-sealing annually for granite and every six months for marble and limestone, using a pH-neutral stone sealer. Quartzite generally needs less frequent sealing.
Absolutely. All Pulycort countertops are cut to your precise dimensions. When placing your order, submit your exact measurements including any cut-outs for sinks or hobs, and our fabrication team will confirm the layout before cutting. For complex shapes or large runs we can arrange an on-site templating service.
Standard cut-to-size orders are typically ready for despatch within 5–10 working days from confirmed order. Delivery timescales depend on your location; nationwide and international delivery is available, and for heavy slabs we use specialist stone-haulage partners. You will receive tracking information once your order leaves our workshop.
